 Library and Information Week 2026: Truth be Told – Shining a Light on Misinformation and Disinformation

Health misinformation is an increasing challenge for healthcare professionals, patients and the broader community. For Library and Information Week 2026, HNE Health Libraries is exploring the theme"Truth be Told: Shining a Light on Misinformation and Disinformation", highlighting the critical role of evidence, information literacy and trusted sources in healthcare.

Throughout the week, staff can participate in a range of activities and learning opportunities, including:

• Wednesday 29 July, 12:30-1:30pm Microsoft Copilot for Everyday Productivity – a practical introduction to using AI safely and effectively in healthcare workplaces. Register here
• Thursday 30 July, 12:30-1:30pm Menopause & Misinformation: Clinical Risks in the Age of the Infodemic- exploring how misinformation can influence patient expectations and clinical decision-making, CLICK to JOIN here
• Game against Misinformation designed to strengthen critical thinking skills and help identify misinformation techniques
• A featured title this year is Bad Influence: How the Internet Hijacked Our Health by award-winning journalist and broadcaster Dr Deborah Cohen. The book examines how social media influencers, wellness brands and online health trends can shape healthcare decisions, often blurring the line between evidence-based medicine and marketing. It offers a timely exploration of the impact of digital health information and why critical appraisal skills are more important than ever.

Health librarians play an important role in supporting evidence-based practice by connecting staff with reliable information, research evidence and trusted clinical resources. As misinformation continues to evolve, libraries remain essential partners in helping healthcare professionals make informed decisions with confidence.
