Preserving the History of HNELHD

HNE Health Libraries collects and preserves materials from across the Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) that document the district’s healthcare history, achievements, and innovation. Through the ongoing acquisition and stewardship of this collection, the libraries aim to honour the district’s social and cultural heritage and highlight the impact of health services on the communities we serve.

What the Library Collects
HNE Health Libraries welcomes items that reflect the history, development, and contributions of staff across the district. The collection includes:

  • Manuscripts and books
  • Historical medical instruments
  • Photographs
  • Artworks

To be considered for inclusion, items must have originated within or been used by staff who have worked in and contributed to, HNELHD.

In collection management, it documents where an item came from, who has owned or cared for it over time, and how it has been transferred or preserved.
