Before You Throw It Away: Could It Be Part of HNE Health's History?

Do you have an item that tells part of Hunter New England Health's story?
The move to the new John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct marks a significant milestone in the history of Hunter New England Health. As part of this transition, HNE Health Libraries is helping preserve our organisational heritage by identifying and collecting historically significant items that reflect the people, places, services, and stories that have shaped our health service.

Many important historical items come to light during relocations and office clean-outs. Before discarding older materials, we encourage staff to consider whether they may have historical value and to seek advice from the Library team.

What kinds of items are we looking for?

• Historical photographs
• Departmental records and reports
• Manuscripts and unpublished documents
• Medical instruments and equipment
• Uniforms, badges, and memorabilia
• Awards and commemorative items
• Artwork and artefacts connected to HNELHD facilities or services
• Publications that document local health services or significant events

What we're generally not seeking

• Old or superseded textbooks
• Routine administrative paperwork
• Duplicate items already widely available
• Broken or incomplete objects without a clear historical connection
• Common mass-produced items with no identifiable link to HNELHD

Before disposing of potentially significant material, contact the Library or submit an Expression of Interest so together we can preserve Hunter New England Health's history for future generations.
