Step 6: Gain Required Training & Ethics Approval

Training

  • Complete mandatory research training modules offered through HNE Health or partner organisations, including:
o    Good Clinical Practice (GCP) for clinical trials in Australia
    o    Ethics and governance training
o    Data privacy and security training
  • These ensure your research complies with national standards and protects participants.

Ethics Approval

  • Submit your proposal to the HNE Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) or another recognised ethics body.
  • The ethics application includes study rationale, methodology, consent processes, and participant protections.
  • The Research Office can guide you through completing applications and responding to queries.

Additional approvals

  • Depending on your project, you may need governance approval from specific clinical units or Indigenous health advisory groups, especially if working with Aboriginal communities
